Jewels from the Co-Lab

Posted on November 6, 2019 by weeklyr

Below are some photos of QC Co-lab member Shari of @JewelsbyShari who recently had her jewelry on display at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds during the Black Hawk Gem & Mineral Show. Shari is a self-taught artist who has perfected her skills over the last 20 years. Her crafty beginnings started with building one of a kind dreamcatchers. She was commissioned to make a pair of tiny dreamcatcher earrings by a customer and discovered her love of jewelry making.  Since then her offerings have grown from earrings into a wide array of rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Her wire wrapping work is unique

Introduction | The Wood Shop Series

Posted on April 10, 2019 by weeklyr

Over the last month, the QC Co-Lab, through much deliberation, effort, and hard work has started to move, organize and upgrade the wood shop! The current location of the wood shop isn’t a bad one, and has seen a lot of quality use! The biggest “problem”, if you can even call it that, is that the usage of the wood shop has increased over the last few months. With the increase in use, also came an increase in storage requirements, space needed for assembling and finishing projects, and overall tool availability. The good news for the Co-Lab, is that one

Mikaela Simmons shares Picademy Experience

Posted on August 3, 2017 by Keith Claussen

Ms. Simmons is a Co-Lab member and teacher at Moline Coal-Valley Schools From July 24-25, I attended Raspberry Pi’s Picademy in downtown Ann Arbor. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Raspberry Pi, it is a $35 ‘mini computer’ that can be hooked onto a desktop as a computer replacement or can be used for coding projects and inventions. Picademy is a Raspberry Pi training session for educators that you have to apply and be accepted for. I found out at my training that there were over 1000 applications for Picademy training, which means that not everyone was accepted.

Co-Lab member launches Kickstarter campaign

Posted on March 20, 2017 by Keith Claussen

So, what has our laser cutter been up to lately at the QC Co-Lab? Making parts for a Kickstarter campaign, of course! Roscoe Vertein has been working on prototypes and samples the last couple of months at the Co-Lab. He recently launched his Kickstarter campaign, Boffin’s Beneficial Battle Box: Decks, Dice, and other stuff. The idea came to him one day, thinking about something he could build and sell. His passion for table top gaming made him wonder, “what would be a cool thing I could build?” This epiphany moved Roscoe to start working on designs for the Battle Box.
